Tightend Touchdown Repeats in PA Governor's Cup
Tightend Touchdown has proved up to the task at Penn National, now scoring back-to-back wins in the $150,000 Pennsylvania Governor's Cup.
Last year's Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint runner-up kept a stalking position behind the leaders under a pace of :21.81 and :44.66. Under Javier Castellano, Tightend Touchdown began his chase along the rail to challenge Bold Thunder before moving into the three-path to overtake the leader.
Stormofthecentury rallied late on the inside to edge Bold Thunder to finish second. Sensible Lady finished third. Trained by Jason Servis, Tightend Touchdown stopped the clock for five furlongs on good turf in :56.77.
Bred in Florida by Chad and Laurie Stewart, Tightend Touchdown is by Pure Precision out of the Marquetry dam Starry Mark. The 5-year-old gelding has a lifetime record of 10 wins, six seconds and a third from 24 starts and earnings of more than $660,000 for the winning owners of Mr Amore Stable.
Favored at 6-5, Tightend Touchdown paid $4.40 for the win.
