Joey Merritt’s odds-on front-running favorite Tiban proved no disappointment Friday at Fair Grounds when he drew off for a facile 5 1/2-length score in the featured $49,000 allowance and $40,000 optional claiming six-furlong sprint.

After breaking alertly and quickly gaining command, Tiban cut out early splits of 21.98 and 45.58 before coming home in 1:10.86 and returning mutuels of $3.60, $2.80 and $2.20.

Trained by Tim Glyshaw and ridden by Leandro Goncalves, Tiban increased his career earnings to $185,313 with his 11th victory from 23 lifetime starts.

Mike McCarty’s Lake Victor got up in the last jump to finish a nose in front of Two Dimes Stable’s Pisgah Station, paying $9.20 and $4.40 as the runner-up while Pisgah Station returned $3.40 in the show position.
