Thursday works: Fionn, Velocity lead graded-stakes winners
Thursday's work tab was led by two fillies who won Grade 1 stakes in their most recent starts.
Fionn, winner of the Belmont Oaks Invitational by a nose over Nitrogen, breezed four furlongs in 50.48 seconds on Saratoga's dirt training track for trainer Brad Cox. It was her sixth work at Saratoga since the July 5 Belmont Oaks, and four of them were on turf.
And Velocity, winner of the Del Mar Oaks on Aug. 16, worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Del Mar for trainer Michael McCarthy. It was the slowest of 19 works at the distance.

Fionn (Twirling Candy), a Grade 1 winner (2025 Belmont Oaks Invitational), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Saratoga on Thursday morning. It was the fourth fastest of seven works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she won the Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Saratoga on July 5 for trainer Brad Cox.
Velocity (Nyquist), a Grade 1 winner (2025 Del Mar Oaks), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Del Mar on Thursday morning. It was the slowest of 19 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she won the Del Mar Oaks (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Aug. 16 for trainer Michael McCarthy.
Howbeit (Secret Circle), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Santa Anita Sprint Championship), worked five furlongs in 1:00.4 at Los Alamitos on Thursday morning. It was the fourth fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was 12 days ago going five furlongs at Los Alamitos. In his last start he won a claiming race going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Los Alamitos on July 6 for trainer Peter Miller.
Gin Gin (Hightail), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Doubledogdare), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Saratoga on Thursday morning. It was the second fastest of seven works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going three furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she placed fourth in the Fleur de Lis (G2) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on June 28 for trainer Brendan Walsh.
Highestdistinction (Point of Entry), a Grade 3 winner (2023 International Turf Cup), worked four furlongs in 50.2 seconds at Monmouth Park on Thursday morning. It was the fifth fastest of 17 works at the distance. His previous work was 20 days ago going four furlongs at Monmouth Park. In his last start he placed second in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Colonial Downs on July 11 for trainer Lindsay Schultz.
