Thursday works: Sibelius leads 11 graded-stakes winners on tab

Sibelius breezed four furlongs in 49.65 seconds Thursday at Palm Meadows as he prepares to seek a second win in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen on March 30.

The 6-year-old gelded son of Not This Time is following the same path ahead of this year's race at Meydan Racecourse, with wins in the Mr. Prospector (G3) in December 2022 and 2023 and the Pelican in feburary 2023 and 2024.

Trainer Jerry O'Dwyer told BloodHorse that Ryan Moore again will ride Sibelius in the Golden Shaheen this year.

Sibelius was one of 11 graded-stakes winners with published works Thursday. Training was cut short at Santa Anita because of high winds.

Idiomatic (Curlin), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2023 Breeders' Cup Distaff, 2023 Spinster, 2023 Personal Ensign), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Fair Grounds on Thursday morning. It was the 42nd fastest of 58 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Fair Grounds. In her last start she won the Breeders' Cup Distaff going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Nov. 4 for trainer Brad Cox.

Pretty Mischievous (Into Mischief), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2023 Test, 2023 Acorn, 2023 Kentucky Oaks), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Palm Meadows on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of 10 works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In her last start she placed second in the Cotillion (G1) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Parx Racing on Sept. 23 for trainer Brendan Walsh.

Alva Starr (Lord Nelson), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Prioress), worked six furlongs in 1:12.0 at Fair Grounds on Thursday morning. It was the faster of two works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In her last start she won the American Beauty going six furlongs on the main track at Oaklawn on Feb. 3 for trainer Brett Brinkman.

Three Witches (Into Mischief), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Santa Monica), worked five furlongs in 1:00.0 at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the second fastest of 27 works at the distance. Her previous work was 10 days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In her last start she won the Santa Monica (G2) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Feb. 3 for trainer Michael McCarthy.

Linda's Gift (Arrogate), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2024 Santa Ana, 2023 Red Carpet), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the sixth fastest of 13 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she won the Santa Ana (G3) going 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Santa Anita on Feb. 24 for trainer Richard Mandella.
