Thursday tab: Fierceness begins preparations for Met Mile

Three-time Grade 1 winner Fierceness recorded his first timed workout on Thursday since winning the Alysheba Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs on May 2, traveling four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Saratoga.

The move by the Todd Pletcher-trained 4-year-ol,d son of City of Light was the third-fastest of 37 works at the distance on Thursday at Saratoga.

In addition to the Alysheba, Fierceness captured the 2023 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, the 2024 Florida Derby and the Travers - all Grade 1s - as well as a second Grade 2 in the 2024 Jim Dandy.

After finishing second to Sierra Leone in the Breeders' Cup Classic in November at Del Mar, Fierceness was turned out for 60 days to undergo elective surgery on a hind ankle.

Pletcher has indicated that the colt is likely to race next in the Metropolitan (G1), long known as the Met Mile, at Saratoga on June 7.

(Medaglia d'Oro), a Grade 1 winner (2025 Kentucky Oaks), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. It was the 33rd fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she won the Kentucky Oaks (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on May 2 for trainer Brad Cox.

Mullikin (Violence), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Forego), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the 40th fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fifth in the Churchill Downs (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on May 3 for trainer Rodolphe Brisset.

Ag Bullet (Twirling Candy), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Ladies Turf Sprint), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the 47th fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed seventh in the Unbridled Sidney presented by (G3) going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Churchill Downs on May 2 for trainer Richard Baltas.

Grand Sonata (Medaglia d'Oro), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Kentucky Turf Cup), worked four furlongs in 50.5 seconds at Saratoga on Thursday morning. It was the 26th fastest of 37 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed sixth in the Elkhorn (G2) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Keeneland on April 19 for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Magnitude (Not This Time), a Grade 2 winner (2025 Risen Star), worked four furlongs in 53.4 seconds at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. It was the slowest of 54 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Risen Star (G2) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Fair Grounds on Feb. 15 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Trademark (Upstart), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Clark), worked five furlongs in 59.8 seconds at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of 18 works at the distance. His previous work was 14 days ago going four furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed sixth in the Fayette (G2) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Keeneland on Oct. 26 for trainer Vicki Oliver.

World Record (Gun Runner), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Amsterdam), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the 38th fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won an allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on May 1 for trainer Rodolphe Brisset.

First World War (War Front), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2024 Penn Mile, 2024 Kitten's Joy), worked three furlongs in 37.4 seconds at Turfway Park on Thursday morning. It was the fifth fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was 271 days ago going four furlongs at Turfway Park. In his last start he placed second in the American Derby going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on June 29 for trainer Brendan Walsh.

Antiquarian (Preservationist), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Peter Pan), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Saratoga on Thursday morning. It was the third fastest of 37 works at the distance. His previous work was 12 days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga.
