Thursday tab: 14 graded workers include Breeders' Cup hopefuls

Breeders' Cup hopefuls drilled at Keeneland and Santa Anita on Thursday morning.

At Keeneland, trainer Rusty Arnold’s two pre-entrants for the Breeders’ Cup, Cellist for the Turf and Gear Jockey for the Turf Sprint, both worked five furlongs in 1:00.60 on a fast dirt track on Thursday.

At Santa Anita, Señor Buscador worked a bullet five furlongs in company under jockey Geovanni Franco, who has the call in the Classic.

Also working at the Southern California track were Didia for the Filly & Mare Turf and Lane Way for the Turf Sprint.

Fourteen graded-stakes winners had published works Thursday in North America.

Forbidden Kingdom (American Pharoah), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2022 San Felipe, 2022 San Vicente), worked two furlongs in 24.2 seconds at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the only work at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Triple Bend (G2) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on May 27 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Didia (Orpen), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Rodeo Drive), worked five furlongs in 1:01.8 at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 19 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In her last start she won the Rodeo Drive (G2) going 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Santa Anita on Oct. 7 for trainer Ignacio Correas.

Gear Jockey (Twirling Candy), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Turf Sprint), worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he won the Turf Sprint (G2) going six furlongs on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 9 for trainer Rusty Arnold.

Lane Way (Into Mischief), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Eddie D), worked four furlongs in 47.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of 29 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going three furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he won the Eddie D (G2) going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Santa Anita on Sept. 30 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Señor Buscador (Mineshaft), a Grade 2 winner (2023 San Diego Handicap), worked five furlongs in 59.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of 19 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed third in the Awesome Again (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Sept. 30 for trainer Todd Fincher.

Dolce Zel (Zelzal), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2022 Lake George, 2022 Florida Oaks), worked five furlongs in 1:01.0 at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the second fastest of four works at the distance. Her previous work was 11 days ago going five furlongs at Los Alamitos. In her last start she placed sixth in the Matriarch (G1) going one mile on the turf at Del Mar on Dec. 4 for trainer Chad Brown.

Cellist (Big Blue Kitten), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Louisville), worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of six works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed second in the Sycamore (G3) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Keeneland on Oct. 13 for trainer Rusty Arnold.

Fort Bragg (Tapit), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Dwyer), worked six furlongs in 1:11.6 at Santa Anita on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of three works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going six furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed third in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G2) going six furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Sept. 30 for trainer Bob Baffert.

Hidden Connection (Connect), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Pocahontas), worked five furlongs in 1:01.0 at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 23 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Churchill Downs. In her last start she placed second in the Locust Grove (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Sept. 16 for trainer Bret Calhoun.

Hot Peppers (Khozan), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Victory Ride), worked three furlongs in 36.4 seconds at Los Alamitos on Thursday morning. It was the second fastest of six works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Los Alamitos. In her last start she placed fourth in the Prioress (G2) going six furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on Sept. 2 for trainer Rudy Rodriguez.

Like the King (Palace Malice), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Jeff Ruby Steaks), worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at Woodbine on Thursday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 21 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic at Woodbine on Oct. 8 for trainer Mark Casse.

Promise Keeper (Constitution), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Peter Pan), worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. It was the 38th fastest of 49 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed 11th in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Sept. 21 for trainer Dallas Stewart.

Roses for Debra (Liam's Map), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Caress), worked three furlongs in 35.1 seconds at Belmont Park on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of seven works at the distance. Her previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In her last start she placed third in the Turf Monster (G3) going five furlongs on the turf at Parx Racing on Sept. 23 for trainer Christophe Clement.

Slipstream (More Than Ready), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Futurity), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Saratoga on Thursday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 13 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed seventh in an allowance race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 23 for trainer Christophe Clement.
