Thunderously impresses on career debut at Gulfstream
Making his career debut, Thunderously rallied from off the pace and drew clear through the stretch to capture an $84,000 maiden special weight Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
JĂșnior Alvarado rode the victory for trainer Bill Mott in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds on the fast main track.
Ramajay (4-1), piloted by Tyler Gaffalione, established fractions of 23.63 and 48.11 seconds through the first half-mile. Thunderously (4-1) settled in fourth, about a length off the pace through the opening quarter.
Ramajay continued to lead through three-quarters of a mile in 1:13.34. Thunderously moved up into third position on the far turn as Fancy Gentleman (11-1) stalked in second.
Fancy Gentleman surged to the lead at the top of the stretch. Thunderously, still behind at that point, unleashed a powerful rally under Alvarado and swept past to take command. The chestnut colt drew away through the lane, stopping the timer in 1:45.87.
Fancy Gentleman, ridden by Joel Rosario for trainer Danny Gargan, finished second. Ace Jack Deuce (5-1), trained by Kenny McPeek with Reylu Rojas aboard, closed for third. Redemption Hour (9-1) completed the superfecta.
Thunderously paid $9.60, $5.40 and $4.20. Fancy Gentleman returned $8.60 and $6.20. Ace Jack Deuce paid $4.40 to show.
A Kentucky-bred son of Gun Runner out of the Midshipman mare Princess Warrior, Thunderously was a $300,000 purchase at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale. He was bred by Evan Trommer Jr, CDM Bloodstock and Crocket Farm.
