Shade Tree Thoroughbreds’ Three Rules breezed five furlongs in 1:01.22 around the ‘dogs’ and over a ‘good’ Gulfstream Park main track Saturday, registering the fastest workout of 28 recorded at the distance.

The undefeated 2-year-old son of Gone Astray, who was prepping for next Saturday’s $300,000 Affirmed Division of the Florida Sire Stakes (FSS), received a thumbs-up from trainer Jose Pinchin.

“I was pleased with the work. The track was deep and he just galloped along,” Pinchin said.

Three Rules is undefeated in three career starts, all at Gulfstream, where the homebred colt debuted June 10 with a 3 ½-length victory after running five furlongs in 58.54 seconds under a hand ride from Cornelio Velasquez. The strapping dark bay colt came back to notch a dominating five-length off-the-pace score in the $75,000 Birdonthewire Stakes on the Summit of Speed program July 2. Three Rules was more impressive than ever while capturing the $200,000 FSS Dr. Fager Division Aug. 6, rolling to a seven-length victory without the need for much encouragement from Velasquez.

The Florida-bred colt set a FSS Dr. Fager record while running six furlongs in 1:09.49, despite experiencing a blip in his preparation for the first leg of the tradition-rich series for juveniles sired by accredited stallions standing in Florida.

“He’s doing well. He had a little issue right before the last race,” Pinchin said. “He popped an abscess. He’s gotten over that and he’s doing terrific.”

The Pinchin-trained Front Loaded, who finished third in the Dr. Fager, breezed five furlongs in 1:01.93 for the seven-furlong Affirmed.

Curtis Mikkelsen’s Cajun Delta Dawn, who captured the $200,000 FSS Desert Vixen Division for fillies Aug. 6, breezed five furlongs in 1:01.91 Saturday in preparation for next Saturday’s $300,000 FSS Susan’s Girl Division. The David Fawkes-trained filly turned in the third-fastest five furlong work, behind only Three Rules and Daring Kathy, her multiple-stakes winning 5-year-old stablemate.
