In the fifth race at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino on Wednesday, July 22 there was an incident involving three horses and jockeys, in which all three riders required further medical attention.

Alex Contreras, riding Divine Thunder, and Oriana Rossi, riding Top Priority, were both unseated from their horses due to the incident. One of the fallen horses struck Cisco Torres, who was riding My Prize Now, as he passed on the outside. The horses involved in the incident were not injured and returned to their stables.

Both Rossi and Contreras were transported to Major Hospital in Shelbyville by ambulance, with Torres receiving additional treatment at Major Hospital later that evening. Medical staff evaluated both Contreras and Torres, with Contreras undergoing a subsequent surgery. Rossi was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in downtown Indianapolis on Wednesday for surgery and remains for further care and evaluation.

The Indiana Grand team is doing all it can to provide additional resources where possible for all three jockeys and their families. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Indiana Grand team are with all three riders and their families as they receive additional treatment and begin recovery.
