Thousand Words, Max Player highlight Monday's graded stakes works

Max Player had his first work for new trainer Steve Asmussen, going five furlongs at Churchill Downs on Monday. The third-place finisher in the Belmont and Travers Stakes previously was trained by Linda Rice. Shared Belief Stakes winner Thousand Words put forth a bullet 6-furlong drill at Del Mar for Bob Baffert. Max Player and Thousand Words are both targeting the Kentucky Derby for their next start.

Max Player (Honor Code) a Grade 3 winner (2020 Withers) worked 5 furlongs in 1:01.8 at Churchill Downs on Monday morning. It was the 13th fastest of 47 works at the distance. This is his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in the Runhappy Travers (G1) going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 8 for previous trainer Linda Rice.
