Thoroughbred owner, breeder Bob Lothenbach dies

Thoroughbred owner and breeder Bob Lothenbach died Wednesday at age 64, according to multiple media reports.

Lothenbach was the leading owner at Canterbury Park for the last four years and was inducted into the track's hall of fame in 2023. He won his first owner title there in 2002, according to his hall of fame announcement.

His Lothenbach Stables had a career record of 4,747: 793-721-718 and earnings of $30,289,130, according to Equibase.

His top-earning horse was Bell's the One, winner of five graded stakes, including the Grade 1 Derby City Distaff in 2020. She earned just over $2 million for her career.

Lothenbach's other millionaire was Mister Mardi Gras, winner of the Ack Ack (G2) in 2011. The homebred gelding had 58 lifetime starts and earnings of $1.2 million.
