Thorn Song to Enter Stud at Harris Farms

Thorn Song, who underwent stem cell therapy after developing laminitis, will enter stud at John C. Harris’ Harris Farms near Coalinga, Calif. The 8-year-old son of Unbridled's Song   is owned by Harris and will stand for $3,500.

“We’re going to do everything we can to make him feel comfortable, and we’re going to be careful how many mares we breed him to,” said farm manager Dave McGlothlin.

Thorn Song, who was severely injured in the Eddie Read Stakes (gr. IT) at Del Mar in July 2009 and never raced again, was treated for laminitis at Dr. Doug Herthel’s Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in Los Olivos, Calif.

Thorn Song, who raced for Ahmed Zayat’s Zayat Stables, competed against stars such as Goldikova, Einstein, Mr. Sidney, Red Giant, and Kip Deville. Zayat had bought Thorn Song for $200,000 at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training from Niall Brennan Stables, agent.
