Christophe Clement had planned for Gufo to make his 2022 debut in the Grade 1 Man o' War on May 14 at Belmont.

But, he told Horse Racing Nation last week, "he is doing so well, I just might as well run him now, six weeks before the Man o' War. I don't have him 100 percent, but I have him fit enough to run. He's really, really doing great."

Indeed. The 5-year-old won the Pan American (G2) at Gulfstream on Saturday with impressive speed figures. His 102 Beyer Speed Figure put him at the top of the weekend runners, according to the Daily Racing Form. Covering 1 1/2 miles on the turf in 2:27.28 under Joel Rosario also earned him a 112 Brisnet Speed Rating and a 124 TimeformUS figure, tops among stakes winners.

Here are the weekend starters with figures high enough to make the Beyer leaderboard, with Brisnet and TimeformUS figures where available.
