These are the hottest, coldest trainers going into this weekend
Using our Horse Racing Nation database, we are testing a new feature by lookin at the trainers with some of the hottest win percentages for the last 10 and last 25 starts, as well as some of the coldest.
What is a hot or cold trainer?
As a hot or cold stat means different things to different people, the first thing we did was set some criteria. One thing we didn't want to show was a trainer who normally wins at 20 percent as hot if they were winning at 20 percent. Or show a 5 percent trainer as cold when they normally win 3 percent. We landed on a 50 percent increase or decrease from their win percentage over the last year. So the list below is a list of trainers who are 50 percent above their annual win percentage for the last 10 or last 25 starts or 50 percent below their annual win percentage for the last 10 or last 25.
This list is limited to tracks that have the largest handle right now, which are Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, Gulfstream, Oaklawn, Santa Anita, Tampa Bay Downs and Turfway. We also excluded trainers that did not have 100 starts in the last year.
The table below is sorted by the trainer's win percentage for the last 25 races, but you can see their percentages for the last 10, last 25, last 50 and last 365 days. On the far right you can see the HRN Impact stats for their last 50 starts and last year.
The hottest trainers right now
The hottest trainers right now who are at 30 percent winners or above for both their last 25 and last 10 starts are Wayne Potts, Derek Ryan, Antonio Sano and Tom Amoss. Two trainers that might be heating up right now are Brendan Walsh and Juan Cano. They have both won 28 percent of their last 25 starts, and 30 percent and 40 percent of their last 10, respectively.
