The Factor Hangs On in San Vicente

The San Vicente field was reduced to six following the defections of Metropolitan Man, Indian Winter, and Oakcrest Drive, and heavy favorite The Factor did not disappoint in a 3/4 length tally.

The Factor, trained by Bob Baffert, set sail for the lead under Martin Garcia through fractions of :22.20, :43.41, and 1:07.31 over the wet fast going. City Cool and Premier Pegasus were in hot pursuit but struggled to keep pace. City Cool was the first to crack and Premier Pegasus picked up the chase turning for home.

Sway Away began to gather momentum from the back of the pack and set his sights on The Factor but time was running out. The Factor held on over the speed favoring surface, stopping the timer in 1:20.34 and paying $3.80 to win.

Sway Away, making his first start since the Best Pal (G2) at Del Mar last August, was clearly second best and hit the front a bit past the wire.

Premier Pegasus finished a solid 3rd in his first start since November and was followed by Surrey Star, Sinai, and City Cool.
