Ten Juvenile Fillies Set for Demoiselle
Juveniles will kick off the HolidayFest
stakes action at Aqueduct Racetrack Saturday afternoon, with a large
field of fillies competing in the Grade 2, $200,000 Demoiselle.
In the 1
1/8-mile Demoiselle, race 6 on the day's 10-race card, Glencrest Farm's
Disposablepleasure will look to build upon an 11-length maiden victory
last time out at Belmont Park, romping from gate to wire in a 1
1/16-mile event on October 6. She finished fourth in her debut on the
turf at Saratoga Race Course in August and second by 1 ½ lengths to
Glinda the Good going one mile and 70 yards over the main track at
Monmouth Park on September 10. Glinda the Good went on to finish second
in the Blue Hen stakes at Delaware Park and third in the Grade 2
Pocahontas at Churchill Downs in two subsequent starts.
"Every
time she stretches out, I think she just gets a little bit better,"
Whit Beckman, assistant to trainer Todd Pletcher, said of
Disposablepleasure. "That's what she wants. She's by Giacomo, she's got a
great big stride on her and just loves the distance."
New
York's leading rider, Ramon Dominguez, has the call aboard the 2-1
morning-line favorite from post position 8 in the field of 10.
Stepping
up off a handy two-length maiden victory at Parx Racing on October 1 is
Darley Stable's Captivating Lass, a daughter of A.P. Indy trained by
Kiaran McLaughlin.
"She's doing well and we look forward
to running her a mile and an eighth," McLaughlin said. "She's a real
big filly, leggy, 17 hands, and that's why we ran her long first time
out. It's a big step from a maiden to a Grade 2, but she's a real nice
filly, well-bred with a good mind."
With Eddie Castro sidelined, Alan Garcia will ride Captivating Lass, 5-1, from the rail.
Second
choice on the morning line for the Demoiselle at 7-2 is the coupled
entry of Lady Cohiba and Wee Party, both representing Charlotte Weber's
Live Oak Plantation.
Lady Cohiba will run back on short
rest and put an unbeaten streak on the line in the Demoiselle as she
exits a 3 ½-length victory in the May Night overnight stakes on November
16 at Aqueduct. She is trained by Christophe Clement, who will also
saddle Indyniable, a maiden winner last out over the artificial surface
at Keeneland who will make her first dirt start on Saturday.
Hall
of Fame trainer Bill Mott will send out the other half of the Live Oak
entry, Wee Party, a determined half-length maiden winner at the Big A on
November 10.
Completing the Demoiselle field are Brown
Eyed Nance, Wildcat's Smile, Bourbonstreetgirl, Dreaming of Cara and
Awalkinthemoonlite.
