Teddy's Promise Entered at Hollywood Sunday

Defending champion Teddy’s Promise will seek her fifth win over Cushion Track when she faces six opponents in the $70,000-added Time To Leave Stakes Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

A five furlong event for older fillies and mares, the Time To Leave is the third of nine races. Post time Sunday is 1 p.m. Track gates will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by Ron Ellis for owner-breeders Ted and Judy Nichols, Teddy’s Promise was the 7-5 morning line favorite in last weekend’s B. Thoughtful Stakes, one of the main attractions of the 14th California Gold Rush card.

However, Ellis scratched the 5-year-old mare April 27 – the morning of the 7 ½ furlong race for fillies and mares bred or sired in California – due to what he termed a “touch’’ of a bruise on her left front foot.

At the time, Ellis said the issue would be addressed during the upcoming week, and if all went well, Teddy’s Promise would be ready for the Time To Leave.

A daughter of Salt Lake and the Capote mare Braids and Beads, Teddy’s Promise, who won the 2012 Time To Leave by a half-length over Rumor, has won eight of 22 and banked $654,981. She’s earned $157,433 in eight starts at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Shumoos returns to California after finishing sixth of 10 in the Grade I Madison over the Polytrack at Keeneland April 13.

Owned by Fawzi Abdulla Nass and trained by Ben Cecil, Shumoos has won three of 10. The 4-year-old Distorted Humor filly out of the Storm Cat mare Wile Cat has earned $212,541.

Second behind Secret Circle in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint at Churchill Downs, Shumoos has won over a synthetic surface. The Pennsylvania bred captured the Group III Betfred Bonus King Stakes Sept. 3, 2011 at Kempton in Great Britain.

Hidinginplainsight comes off a gate-to-wire victory in the Camilla Urso Stakes March 9 at Golden Gate Fields.

Trained by Mike Puype for a partnership that includes Blinkers On Racing Stable, Wayne Barker and Robert Butler, the 4-year-old Elusive Quality mare out of the Stormy Atlantic mare Hot Storm has won two of 10 and banked $131,750.

Journaliste will make her synthetic debut for Hronis Racing, LLC and trainer John Sadler in her first appearance since finishing sixth of seven in the Grade II Santa Monica Stakes Jan. 26.

An Argentine bred daughter of Sky Mesa out of the Mr. Prospector mare Jordanesque, Journaliste has four wins in nine outings and a bankroll of $57,773. Prior to the Santa Monica, she was fourth in the Cool Air Stakes over the Betfair Hollywood Park turf in her U.S. debut last Nov. 23.

Magical Band overcame a sluggish beginning to win a $60,250 allowance by a nose April 12 at Santa Anita.

Owned by B G Stable and trainer Hector Palma, the 4-year-old daughter of Dixie Union and the A.P. Indy mare Tricky Indy has won three of nine and earned $132,950. She is winless in two races over Cushion Track.

Scary Ride returns to Betfair Hollywood Park for the first time in nearly six months after finishing fourth in an optional claimer March 23.

A 5-year-old daughter of Candy Ride and the Deputy Minister mare Spooky Minister, Scary Ride broke her maiden against $20,000 claimers by nine lengths over Cushion Track in her debut last Nov. 23.

Claimed for $12,500 by her current connections – owner Karl Pergola and trainer Denise Breuer – Jan. 5 at Santa Anita, Scary Ride is 2-for-5 with earnings of $37,400.

Sumalee, who hasn’t won since defeating $5,000 claimers at Los Alamitos Oct. 14, 2011, is scheduled to make her first start of the year for Udubee Stables, Norman Armstrong and trainer Gail Ruffu.

A 6-year-old daughter of Terrell and the Event of the Year mare Light of the Year has won six of 45 and earned $59,281.
