Tasty Treat Goes All the Way in Daisycutter
Cunningham Stables’ Tasty Treat, piloted by Rafael Bejarano, sped to the front out of the gate and never looked back in winning the featured 111,050 Daisycutter Handicap Friday.
Tasty Treat, conditioned by Mike Pender, went postward the 2-1 favorite in a field of eight filly and mare grass sprinters and didn’t disappoint in scoring a 1 3/4-length triumph in a blazing :55.63 for the five furlongs, less than a second slower than the course record of :54.75 set by Fast Parade in 2006.
The California-bred daughter of Roar ensured her success with a final furlong in :10.35 seconds.
Belle de Lune, the 5-2 second choice, closed strongly from last place to be a gaining runner-up, a head in front of Kinz Funky Monkey, who had a troubled journey, having to take up sharply on the far turn. Fourth was Twitter Pie.
Tasty Treat, winner of an optional claiming race July 18 at Del Mar, returned $6.80, $3.60 and $2.80 while earning $72,660 with her seventh win in 17 career outings.
Her career bankroll is $333,874.
Belle de Lune, with Mike Smith aboard, paid $3.60 and $2.60, while Kinz Funky Money paid $3.40.
