Taris, who finished second by a half-length after setting a fast pace as the 7-10 favorite in the Grade I La Brea Stakes Friday, suffered an injury to her right front ankle in the race and will be out for 90 days, trainer Simon Callaghan said Saturday morning.

“We’ll send her to Ashfold Stud (in Versailles, Ky.) for 90 days,” said Callaghan, who told Daily Racing Form the injury was a non-displaced condylar fracture that will require screws to repair the break. Taris will undergo surgery Monday.

Taris, a 3-year-old daughter of Flatter, was purchased at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale for $2.35 million after winning the Grade II Raven Run at Keeneland on Oct. 18.

FINISH LINES: Bob Baffert, owner of a record 11 training titles at Santa Anita, was among the 40,810 people on track Friday under ideal conditions as The Great Race Place ushered in its 78th season of world class racing. “The parking lot past the infield is the key,” Baffert said. “That’s how you can tell how big the crowd is. I didn’t see that many people here for the Breeders’ Cup.” . . . Trainer Richard Baltas said Martin Pedroza has apologized to him for the profanity-laced shouting match and physical confrontation the two got into at Los Alamitos last Sunday. “I accepted his apology and I said I was sorry for touching him, and that’s it; it’s over,” Baltas said. Not quite. California Horse Racing Board steward Tom Ward said a hearing has been tentatively scheduled at Santa Anita early next month on the incident, dubbed by yours truly as The Row at Los Al . . . Trainer David Bernstein, on two of Santa Anita’s most noteworthy figures, who have stakes races named for them today in their memory, Bobby Frankel and Eddie Logan: “Frankel was one of the greatest, but he left us too soon, unfortunately. And Eddie, the shoeshine man, was an actual icon. You didn’t see many like him around. Both are sorely missed.” . . . HRTV host/analyst Bob Baedeker will be Tom Quigley’s guest on Sunday’s handicapping seminar, 11:20 a.m., in the East Paddock Gardens . . . Retired Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. celebrates his 68th birthday on Monday . . . Retired Hall of Fame jockey Don Pierce and his wife, Penney, spent opening day in Santa Anita’s Turf Terrace . . . Eric Kruljac won the meet’s first race when he sent out Justonemorething for a one-length victory under Drayden Van Dyke in Friday’s opener, but the trainer kept things in perspective. “I was the leading trainer for 30 minutes,” he said.
