Grade 1 Florida Derby winner Tappan Street is out of Kentucky Derby 2025 after he came out of a Saturday-morning workout with a condylar fracture. This means Render Judgment, who was entered in the Kentucky Derby, will make the main field.

After a work at Churchill Downs on Saturday morning, jockey Luis Saez noticed that Tappan Street was off on his right front. He was given an x-ray back at the barn, which revealed a condylar fracture. Once that was found, Tappan Street was taken to the hospital and examined by Dr. Larry Bramlage.

The break was "nothing major", according to Cox, but will require surgery. "Anytime you put a horse under anesthesia, you're having surgery, it's always something...I feel pretty confident that he's going to be just fine."

Tappan Street, a 3-year-old son of Into Mischief out of the Distorted Humor mare Virginia Key, sold for $1 million for a yearling and is owned by WinStar Farm, CHC and Cold Press Racing. A debut maiden winner at Gulfstream in December, he finished second behind Burnham Square as the Holy Bull (G3) favorite before winning the Florida Derby by 1 1/4 lengths over Tappan Street on March 29.

With Tappan Street out of the Kentucky Derby, a spot opens up for Render Judgment in the main field. Trainer Kenny McPeek confirmed via a Saturday-morning post on X that the second-place finisher in the Virginia Derby was entered in the Kentucky Derby with Julien Leparoux named to ride. With Render Judgment in the field, this leaves Baeza first on the bubble.
