Santa Anita specialist Tapizar takes the Dirt Mile!
The 4-year-old son of Tapit blazed to the win under Carey Nakatani for trainer Steve Asmussen. Tapizar is owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds. Favorite Shackleford stumbled at the start and was never a factor, toiling in mid-pack as Emcee set a strong pace. Tapizar sat just behind Emcee and made his move around the final turn.
Fellow So Cal veteran Rail Trip held on for 2nd and Woodbine shipper Delegation finished third.
Tapizar went off at odds of 15-1 and paid $32.60.
