Darby Dan Farm’s Tapiture, the five-time Graded stakes-winning millionaire by Tapit, sired his first reported foal early Wednesday when a filly was born at Wynnstay Farm in Lexington, KY.
Bred by Tim & Nancy Hamlin’s Wynnstay Farm, the bay filly with a white blaze is out of the young More Than Ready mare Set'n On Ready, a 2-year-old stakes winner on the track. Her first foal, by Animal Kingdom, sold for $145,000 at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale.
“She is a good size and very correct, with good bone,” said Nancy Hamlin. “We are very happy with the foal Tapiture has given us.”
On the track, Tapiture was weighted among the top colts in North America on the 2013 Experimental Free Handicap as a 2-year-old after breaking his maiden in the Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2) by a runaway 4 ¼ lengths. In his first start as a 3-year-old, Tapiture cruised to another dominant 4 ¼-length victory in the Southwest S. (G3) at Oaklawn.
Tapiture also scored wins in the Matt Winn S. (G3) at Churchill and West Virginia Derby (G2) at Mountaineer at three, and the Ack Ack S. (G3) at Churchill as a 4-year-old. He retired to Darby Dan in 2016 with career earnings of $1,536,820, and his five Graded stakes wins remains second only to Tonalist’s six for Graded victories by sons of Tapit at stud.
Tapiture bred 176 mares in his first book in 2016, more than any other son of Tapit, and third-most among all first-season stallions. He’s set to stand his second season at Darby Dan for a fee of $7,500 stands and nurses.
