Tannery Confirmed for Beverly D

Adding to what looks to be one of the best Beverly D. fields in years, Grade I-winning mare Tannery has been confirmed for the Grade I $750,000 summer centerpiece for turf fillies and mares. Expected to have Robby Albarado aboard for trainer Alan Goldberg and owner Richard Santulli, Tannery exits a poor race in the Grade I Diana at Saratoga, but has the back-class of a victory at the highest level in last year's E. P. Taylor Stakes.

The daughter of European champion Dylan Thomas was also second in last year's Grade I Flower Bowl Invitational at Belmont and third in the previous year's Grade I Garden City Stakes at the same course. Earlier this year, Tannery won the Listed Miss Liberty Stakes at Monmouth Park over Pin Oak Stable's Overheard, who won the Grade II Dance Smartly Stakes at Woodbine in her next start. Tannery is one of six Grade I or Group I winners expected for the Beverly D., joining Stephanie's Kitten, Just the Judge, Emollient, Alterite and Somali Lemonade.

LOCAL BEVERLY D. HOPEFUL LA TIA SERVES NOTICE

In other International Festival of Racing news, Hernandez Racing Club's La Tia burned up the Arlington International Racecourse grass with a brisk five-eighths work in :58 flat under Constantino Roman for trainer Armando De La Cerda. The three-time Illinois-bred champion daughter of City Place ran her last eighth of a mile in :11 flat and galloped out six furlongs on the good turf in 1:10.40. She will have E. T. Baird aboard in the Grade I $750,000 Beverly D. – a race in which she set the pace under Kent Desormeaux in 2013 and finished fifth in a three-horse photo for third with Ausus and beaten race favorite Marketing Mix.

FLAMBOYANT OUT OF SECRETARIAT

David Bienstock and Charlie Winner's Flamboyant has been dropped from consideration for the Grade I $500,000 Secretariat Stakes, according to trainer Paddy Gallagher. Recently third in the Grade I Belmont Derby Invitational, he had long been considered probable to make the race, but concerns reportedly arose over the abundance of shipping in his schedule. The French-bred bay son of Peer Gynt won the Listed La Puente Stakes at Santa Anita earlier this year in his first U.S. start after six races in France.
