Tackleberry On The Comeback Trail

Multiple stakes winner Tackleberry, who won the 2011 Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) and Sunshine Millions Classic and 2010 Fred Hooper (G3), is on the comeback trail.

The Luis Olivares owned and trained 7-year-old, who last raced in April of 2012 when finishing fourth in the Charles Town Classic (G2), breezed an impressive four furlongs from the gate Saturday morning in :47.17, galloping out six furlongs in 1:12, and could make his first start back within the next week.

"We're just waiting on a race," Olivares said. "I've entered him a few times but the races haven't gone. I want to start him off at three quarters. The key is he's doing very well. (Saturday) was the first day he worked with a horse beside him. He's ready to go."

Tackleberry, who's won eight of his 16 starts and more than $900,000, was given plenty of time by Olivares after the Charles Town Classic. "He pulled a muscle first and we gave him time," Olivares said. "Then he had a little heat in his tendon and we gave him more time. We just wanted to give him all the time he needed, and he's healed up. And now...I'm just dying to see him run."
