G3 winner Max Player continued his Kentucky Derby preparations for new trainer Steve Asmussen on Monday, working a sharp 5 furlongs in :59.6 at Churchill Downs. It was the second fastest of 48 works at the distance. Tacitus, Bill Mott's impressive winner of the Suburban (G2) put forth an easy 5-furlong work at Saratoga. Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) victor Volatile worked a solid 4 furlongs at Saratoga for Steve Asmussen.
