TOC Announces Annual Owner Awards

The Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) has announced winners of its 2013 statistical awards for leading California owners. Hronis Racing, LLC was leading owner in purse money won in California last year; the partnership of Jerry Hollendorfer and George Todaro led owners by number of wins for the second consecutive year; and Glen Hill Farm took the leading owner award for California stakes wins. Brian Decker was selected as Rookie of the Year.

Hronis Racing runners earned $1,976,632 in California last year, including five stakes wins. Top earners were Grade II Del Mar Handicap winner Vagabond Shoes, Grade II Santa Barbara Handicap winner Lady of Shamrock, Rising Legend, winner of the Oceanside Stakes, Blue Norther Stakes winner Sky High Gal, and Railbird winner Iotapa.

Hollendorfer and Todaro won a remarkable 38 races from 125 starts in California last year for purse earnings of $1,033,195. Their leading earners were Lady of Fifty, winner of the Grade I Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, and Zeewat, winner of the California Derby and Damascus Stakes.

Glen Hill Farm recorded 11 stakes wins in California for earnings of $1,185,000. Their stakes winners were Marketing Mix, winner of the Grade I Gamely Stakes and Grade III Sunset Handicap; Wishing Gate, winner of the Grade II San Clemente Handicap and Grade III Autumn Miss Stakes; Pontchatrain, winner of the Grade III Senator Ken Maddy Stakes and Unzip Me Stakes; Customer Base, winner of the Grade III Robert J. Frankel and Lucie Manet stakes; Global View, winner of the Grade III Generous Stakes, and La Puente Stakes winner Procurement.

Decker, who formed Star Stables with two buddies whose 8-year-old sons played on his son’s baseball team, had 16 starts for earnings of $102,085. They campaigned Magestic Stinger, Big Wags, Iron Joe T. and Lovmeister in 2013.

Winners will be recognized at TOC’s Annual Meeting at Del Mar on Saturday, Aug. 23.
