Super Screener preview: Commonwealth can mean wealth
You know how they say March comes in like a lion but out like a lamb? Well, the same can be said for Mike Shutty's all-stakes pick 5 play on Saturday at Keeneland using his Super Screener.
The sequence begins with the Grade 3 Commonwealth Stakes with a couple prices featuring prominently and ends with the Blue Grass Stakes with more logical contenders making the grade.
This week's Super Screener covers a dozen races with "top win contenders," "most reliable board hitters," "top value," "top long shots" and "other horses to use 'under'" designations for each race plus written analysis and wagering strategy.
Super Screener rates the Commonwealth with a playability score of seven (out of 10) indicating high payoff potential.
"We kick off the all-stakes Pick 5 hoping for a productive start with a race that promises to produce a generous wagering return," Shutty writes. "The pace will come off as soft (four or five points off par) in this affair, but the pressure will be heavy as this field of nine run as a compact pack.
"The Super Screener top win contenders are also the top value – Call Me Fast – and top longshot –Bo Cruz – selections. Form-cycle analysis projects a five-point move forward for Bo Cruz off his first race off the layoff. If Bo Cruz falls short, look for Call Me Fast to pick up the pieces."
Shutty is not only playing two prices in the Commonwealth but also taking a stand against one of the bigger favorites in the sequence in Minnesota Ready.
"He is capable of a big race at any time on any surface," Shutty says. "However, he typically regresses off a big win, and that is the likely outcome here at too-short a price."
All three Kentucky Derby prep races are a part of the dozen races covered in this week's Super Screener.
