Super Screener: Top Saturday play at Aqueduct

Saturday's Artie Schiller Stakes at Aqueduct features a well-matched field of lawn mowers whose connections are seeking to add more purse money to the treasure chest as the 2020 racing season enters the final stretch run.

Rinaldi is the clear pace leader and holds a strong advantage here. The favorite, Therapist, will be the closest pursuer pressing the average pace and getting first run on the closers. The deepest of closers here will struggle to impact unless they offer a very strong turn of foot.

Luckily for price players there is a runner with a nice turn of foot in this field at 10-1. James Toner's Hawkish is this week's Super Screener top long shot.

You can no longer see it on his past performances but this horse’s best race came going this mile distance on the AQU turf course. He laid out energy evenly in that race and knocked out 93+ BRIS Pace Speed Rating figures throughout. Anything close to that effort gets the job done here.

He hasn’t been seen since early September but he has been working brilliantly leading up to this. He has run well off similar layoffs. Blinkers were tried last out but they come off today. He will sit a perfect trip just a few lengths off Rinaldi and Therapist. Bettors will probably get odds greater than 10-1.

It would be wise to key Hawkish first and second in exactas with the two favorites.

Rinaldi is the lone pace horse in this race and he’ll be able to slow this one way down in the early going, which makes him very dangerous here. He tracked an insanely fast pace (track variant adjusted) last out and, to no surprise, he weakened late.

He will secure his needed lone lead carving out fractions not too dissimilar from those he cut in that victory two races back. This lightly raced 4 yr-old improves second off the layoff.

Christophe Clement's New York-bred Therapist rarely misses the Superfecta and has hit it in each of his last 10 starts. He’s the Super Screener Top Board Hitter pick in this race. He’ll sit a great trip tracking Rinaldi keeping him within range.

Breeders' Cup recap:

The Super Screener continues to be one of racing's most valuable tools. Subscribers had success at the 2020 Breeders' Cup as the Super Screener correctly picked the $275 $1 exacta in the Juvenile Turf and the cold exacta in the Juvenile Fillies. It identified Golden Pal and Gamine as strong, reliable favorites. Turf winner Tarnawa and Filly and Mare Turf winner Auydara both scored 100% on the Super Screener's ratings.
