Super Screener tackles Kentucky Derby preps, 9 other stakes
No Aqueduct is no problem for this week's Super Screener, as Horse Racing Nation's flagship handicapping product still includes the other two Kentucky Derby preps plus nine other stakes races this weekend.
The Withers Stakes will be a part of next week's Super Screener that will also include the Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields.
Why mention all the prep races in back-to-back weeks? Because Horse Racing Nation has a special through Triple Crown prep season with every week covered through the Road to the Kentucky Derby for just $97!
As for this week, Mike Shutty has identified potential key plays in all 11 stakes, but one in particular – the Thunder Road Stakes at Santa Anita Park – stuck out to the Super Screener impresario.
"We start with understanding the pace set up, and the Super Screener projects about a 2-to-3-point-faster-than-par pace accompanied by plenty of pressure," Shutty writes. "#4 Bob and Jackie will lead the way in the early going, but #8 Air Force Red will soon join that rival on the stretch out to a route, but unlike the last time he went the mile distance, he will not get the lone lead he needs to be effective, and he'll be forced into a tough pace with a regression expected after four consecutive advances in his form cycle.
"The Super Screener rates #1 Earl Rocks as a horse that offers separation from the rest of the field as a top win and value pick. Noe that perfect form progression pattern in play while making just his third start since April 2001. This five-year-old gelding from trainer Phil D'Amato is loaded with more upside. He'll sit a great trip and his last work is razor sharp. He is ready to break through to a new lifetime top."
