Super Screener: Favorites need not apply this weekend

The calm before the 100-point Kentucky Derby prep storm might be short on stakes opportunities, but Mike Shutty projects no shortage of wagering opportunity with all six screened races going against the morning line favorite.

The highlight, of course, is the $500,000 Virginia Derby on Saturday at Colonial Downs. While Bob Baffert-trained Getaway Car is certain to get the public's attention, Shutty has fixed his gaze on the likely second choice Rapture.

"This colt exudes balance, and he also checks the stamina breeding box," Shutty said of the Brad Cox trainee. "He debuted at a one-turn mile and then destroyed his rivals next out going two turns, but he should appreciate this one-turn layout. He hasn't missed a beat in his training, submitting solid drills through and form-cycle analysis results are coming back very bullish as a five- to six-point move anticipated."

Each race in Super Screener includes top win contender, most reliable board-hitter, top value and top long-shot designations along with wagering strategy regarding how to use the horses in those categories.

Along those lines, Shutty tabs Omaha Omaha as a long shot special to slot underneath his top selection.

"He is clearly a pace-dependent type, and he may have many lengths to make up on the pace turning for home," Shutty said. "Nonetheless, with his late foot, experience at nine furlongs and a beneficial pace set up, no other horse will be moving faster in the stretch. A reliable under play."

Super Screener is available every week. Right now there is a special for $97 to get you through the Triple Crown season all the way through the Belmont Stakes. This package also includes daily Power Picks and Horses to Single reports.
