Super Screener preview: Filly can upset King’s Plate

The connections of Caitlinhergrtness gambled by supplementing their Woodbine Oaks runner-up to the King's Plate, and Mike Shutty says the Omaha Beach filly is worth a gamble in the pari-mutuel pool as well.

The King's Plate on Saturday at Woodbine is one of five stakes covered in this week’s Super Screener plus a sixth race is analyzed as part of a suggested Pick 3 play. Each race includes picks, analysis and wagering strategy.

Of course, Super Screener is so much more than just winning plays every weekend. Subscribe now and receive not only Screener every weekend but also Power Picks and Horses to Single reports every day now through Breeders' Cup for just $97.

Back to the Plate, Shutty is taking on a well-regard Mark Casse-trained trio by picking Caitlinhergrtness.

"
The main draw with this filly is what form-cycle analysis reveals," Shutty said. "After logging that pace top last out, she is primed for a six- to seven-point move forward off that last race. In addition, with this surface favoring forwardly placed types right now and the fact that the pace will be reasonable here, she’ll find a ground-saving trip comfortably traveling just two lengths off the pace and then will steadily gain on those leaders in the latter part of the turn. Coming off a pace top will sharpen her late kick to ensure plenty of stamina to the wire."

Of the Casse runners, Shutty favors Essex Serpent, thinking he suits this 1 1/4-mile trip better, especially against favored stablemate My Boy Prince, who also has a forward style.

The wagering strategy for this race leans toward a heavy use of Caitlinhergrtness in all wagers, including a straight win bet at her morning-line price.
