Super Screener: Buckeye-bred can steal Ohio Derby day show
While the $500,000 Ohio Derby is the understandable showpiece of the Saturday program at Thistledown, an Ohio-bred mare racing on the undercard could steal the show if she outruns her 12-1 morning line odds.
Candlelight Hours is one of only six Ohio-bred females to win more than $600,000 in her career, and she could become just the fifth member of the $700,000 club with a win in the Lady Jacqueline Stakes on the Ohio Derby undercard.
The Lady Jacqueline is one of three stakes from Thistledown covered in this week's Super Screener that also includes the week's other graded stakes, the Chicago (G2) at Churchill Downs, as well as the Goldwood at Monmouth.

As for the Lady Jacqueline, Candlelight Hours received both the Top Win Contender and Top Long Shot designations in Super Screener's analysis of the race while Peignoir is also a Top Win Contender and the Most Reliable Board Hitter. Each race in Super Screener includes selections, analysis and wagering strategy, so no surprise to see Candlelight Honors factor prominently with the logical horses.
"Candlelight Hours scores best due to being advantaged by the pace set up and positive form-cycle dynamics," Super Screener says. "She scored her lifetime top going six furlongs in the mud last out and did so displaying that perfect balance you want to see in a horse that will be going from a sprint to a route, specifically (this) nine-furlong distance. In fact, she is four-for-four in the trifecta at this distance."
