Super Screener picks 1 race for weekend's biggest upset

If avoiding vulnerable chalk is like dodging landmines, then connecting on a winning long shot provides the fireworks typically associated with this holiday weekend.

One of the biggest favorites of the weekend, Nitrogen in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks on Saturday at Saratoga, also happens to be one of Super Screener's biggest bets against in this week's edition, which covers 10 races Friday and Saturday at Saratoga, Horseshoe Indianapolis and Prairie Meadows.

"Fourth of July weekend stakes action at Saratoga closes with the Belmont Oaks Invitational, which drew just seven runners as not too many wanted to take on the division leader Nitrogen," Mike Shutty said regarding this race. "Virgin Colada and May Day Ready will both be passing horses down the stretch, and they'll all be trying to get past the division leader Nitrogen while offering value.

"The Super Screener top long-shot pick, May Day Ready, ran in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf along with Virgin Colada and Nitrogen, and she was the best of that day from among the trio. With her stout route breeding and balanced energy-distribution profile, (May Day Ready) will move forward with the added distance here. The risk-reward value proposition is highly favorable."

Each race in Super Screener includes selections, analysis and wagering strategy, and the Belmont Oaks strategy leans heavily toward using May Day Ready and Virgin Colada in the top two spots.

Sign up for Super Screener and receive each week through Breeders' Cup plus daily Power Picks and Horses to Single reports all for $127.
