Super Screener: Withers, Tampa Bay have 'high payoff potential'

It's a juicy slate of stakes action this weekend headlined by Kentucky Derby preps from Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park on Saturday and Santa Anita Park on Sunday.

As usual, the Super Screener handicapping method developed by author Mike Shutty has drilled down on all the major races from across the country with in-depth analysis and wagering strategies. At Aqueduct, the $250,000 Withers Stakes (G3) continues New York's road to the Kentucky Derby with a wide open 11-horse field led by lukewarm favorite Early Voting (3-1).

Super Screener rates the Withers to have "high payoff potential" as it tabs Early Voting for a minor share at best. Instead, Super Screener gives first look to 10-1 shot Grantham for trainer Mike Maker.

Super Screener notes Grantham "checks a lot of boxes" and "is begging for more ground" that is provided by the 1 1/8-miles Withers.

"With his natural speed deployed on a favorable rail, he'll sit very comfortably off the pace leader reserving all kinds of energy to be deployed over that critical final furlong. Ships in from Kentucky for this and is a very strong win contender that offers value."

In addition to liking a long shot to win the Withers, Super Screener is also projecting pari-mutuel fireworks in the Tampa Bay Stakes on turf at Tampa Bay Downs.

This week's Super Screener also offers full analysis and wagering strategies for the Endeavor (G3), Kitten's Joy (G3), Forward Gal (G3), Sweetest Chant (G3), Holy Bull (G3) plus the late Pick 5 from Gulfstream Park.
