Super Screener: Underneath plays key to Jeff Ruby Steaks

Mike Shutty, author of Horse Racing Nation's Super Screener handicapping system, looked at every which way to go against heavy Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) favorite Somelikeithotbrown in Saturday's race at Turfway Park.

But there was no siding against him on the Polytrack, over which the son of Big Brown dominated the local prep for this Kentucky Derby qualifier last month.

"He is a solid vertical and horizontal single," Shutty said of Somelikeithotbrown. "Use on top and cover some under with the 'B' horses on top."

So, who are the next flight of contenders looking to hit the board? And what's the Super Screener?

The Super Screener uses data-driven analysis to handicap top stakes races each week throughout the year. What's available here is a small sample of Shutty's work this weekend, with the full product including analysis of the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and Gotham Stakes (G3), among other big-name events.

Now, as for who to play underneath Somelikeithotbrown Shutty's Top 3:

Five Star General (10-1) "will be able to control the modest pace early on, which does make him dangerous here, especially since other than Somelikeithotbrown he meets easier here than what he faced in his last two efforts. Moves forward big second off that layoff."

With Skywire (3-1), "it's hard to get a firm read on his last effort run on the sloppy, sealed Gulfstream Park surface. But this Mark Casse charge progressed there when coming back off a layoff. He faces easier here he and is proven on the synthetic surface."

The closing Dabo (10-1) won't be favored by the pace setup, Shutty said, "but this Dale Romans-trained gelding looked sharp coming in off the layoff finishing third in behind Somelikeithotbrown last time. Key here is that form cycle analysis indicates a very big move forward, and more ground is an additional positive."

In addition to sensible exacta plays, Shutty offered an option for a superfecta on the Jeff Ruby Steaks field of 11. To get it and much more stakes analysis for the upcoming weekend, gain the Super Screener advantage today!
