Super Screener: This long shot could start the Preakness Pick 5

Though there is no Cornucopian in the Preakness Stakes, there is a cornucopia of wagering opportunity on Preakness day Saturday.

Of course, a lot of attention will be on those wagers involving the Preakness itself, including mandatory payouts on the Pick 6 and Pick 5 ending with the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

Race 9 is the Jim McKay Turf Sprint, the second leg of that Pick 6 and first leg of the Pick 5. More importantly for bettors, Super Screener thinks it is one of the best opportunities of the day to land a price.

Super Screener covers the top stakes each weekend and takes an even deeper dive into Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup races. You can get the Preakness, Belmont Stakes and everything in between for just $47.

As for the McKay, Super Screener projects "a war on the front end" with "as many as four horses ... competing for pace supremacy laying down brutally fast fractions in the process setting this one up for a horse that will come from off the pace."

Super Screener author Mike Shutty thinks that horse is Mattingly.

"This Joe Orseno trainee is getting really good at the right time," Shutty says. "He returned from an August to February layoff to Gulfstream Park on a course that favors speed. If you put a line through that dirt race two back, his form shows great progression. Form-cycle analysis says he can match his last race, which would get the job done here."

Super Screener includes not only selections and analysis but also wagering strategy for each race as well as a selected multi-race sequence.
