Super Screener: ‘Solid’ win picks for Florida Derby, UAE Derby

In Saturday’s pair of 2018 Kentucky Derby preps, Mike Shutty, author of Horse Racing Nation’s Super Screener handicapping system, is betting on the home teams.

First, the Group 2 UAE Derby runs at Meydan, followed hours later by Gulfstream Park's Grade 1 Florida Derby. Both preps pay out qualifying points on a 100-40-20-10 scale to the Top 4 finishers, sending the winners on to Churchill Downs.

Inspiration for the Super Screener Stakes Weekly analysis came from our loyal Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Super customers. They have often asked us for a product focused on analyzing the key graded stakes that run each weekend throughout the year.

What's offered here -- for free -- is only a small sample of the full Super Screener now available. This weekend's edition also covers the Dubai World Cup and a trio of Florida Derby undercard stakes.

Now, as for those Kentucky Derby prep win picks...

In the UAE Derby, #5 Gold Town "is crushing his foes across his last across starts and drew away in that one mile prep by 10 lengths against 14 other rivals," Shutty notes. "Gold own is bred to run all day long so this added ground is no problem. Trainer Charlie Appleby is one of Europe’s best. Solid!"

In the Florida Derby, #8 Audible "is the type that appreciates space between races," Shutty said. "Form cycle pattern is very positive. Lays out most energy middle and late so perfect for the added ground here. Consistent work pattern leading up to this. Can regress and still win. Very solid win choice despite being delicately handled."
