Super Screener: Shamrocket (6-1) is live in the Mac Diarmida
With a whopping 15 stakes combined at Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita, plus Kentucky Derby preps at Aqueduct and Turfway Park, the action promises to be fast and furious on Saturday.
Super Screener has you covered. In this week's edition, author Mike Shutty unleashes his time-tested and data-driven handicapping method with analysis and wagering strategies for 12 graded stakes plus the late Pick 5 at Gulfstream.
Among those is the Mac Diarmida (G2) for older horses going 1 3/8 miles on turf at Gulfstream Park. Identified by Super Screener as both its top win contender and value play is Shamrocket, who is a healthy 6-1 on the morning line.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, 5-year-old Shamrocket was a stakes winner in New York last year on turf and in his seasonal bow Jan 15, proved his versatility when switching to dirt and taking down the Sunshine Classic at Gulfstream. The son of Tonalist was then wheeled back in just seven days for the Sunshine Turf, which was washed off the grass and moved to Gulfstream's Tapeta track.
From Super Screener: "Not sure what Pletcher was thinking in running this charge in those two races a week apart, but he has had sufficient rest since then to abate a threat of regression in this race. He projects to sit a great trip just 3 or 4 lengths off the pace and he does own a strong turn of foot to make an impact at a price as the cross the wire.
"A sneaky good one."
