Super Screener: Price-a-plenty in Megahertz Stakes

While cancellations have reduced the number of wagering opportunities on Saturday, there is still quality among those that remain, including the Megahertz Stakes at Santa Anita Park.

Besides, the Kentucky Derby preps that were canceled, the Withers at Aqueduct and the Southwest (G3) at Oaklawn, will be run Friday, giving bettors a bonus day of stakes next week.

This week's Super Screener includes eight stakes from four different tracks, including an early look at that Southwest plus a key play in the Holy Bull (G3), the Kentucky Derby prep at Gulfstream Park.

Speaking of Triple Crown preps, subscribe to Super Screener and receive all 11 weeks of prep races plus the next three weeks that conclude with the Kentucky Derby on May 2 at Churchill Downs. For $97, you receive all 14 weekly editions. This span also includes the Saudi Cup (G1), the Dubai World Cup (G1), and the Keeneland spring meeting in addition to daily Power Picks and Horses to Single Reports.

As for the Megahertz, it features a field of nine competitive distaff turfers going a mile on a course that figures to be rated as firm. Such conditions have rewarded those with a balanced Energy Distribution Profile. The pace will land around par, but there will be up to five horses running within two lengths of one another in the early going to ensure more than adequate pace pressure.

"In the end, the Super Screener landed on Sigh No More, who was competing out east and now ships back for this," Super Screener's Mike Shutty says. "That type of shipper does quite well in these California-based turf stakes races. Top turf stakes trainer Phil D’Amato takes over the care of this filly, and she has been training really well since that layoff. She wanted no part of those soft turf courses she traveled over in her last two starts.

"In addition, her final Brisnet Speed Rating figure is very much understated due to sitting last in a field in which they were crawling for most of the race through a glacial pace. She gets a great pace set up now and both her balance and adequate late foot will benefit her as she comes out of the final turn

unleashing a persistent drive to the wire."

Each race in Super Screener includes selections, analysis and wagering strategy. Sigh No More earned both a Top Win Contender and Top Value designations. My Perfect Wave is the Most Reliable Board Hitter, and Baltic Fire is the Top Long Shot.

"Baltic Fire owns a very balanced Energy Distribution Profile that will play very well into this pace set up," Shutty says. "Her last win came off a similar layoff back in July despite a less-than-perfect trip. While victory is difficult to envision, she owns an excellent shot to bolster the exotic payoffs with a finish somewhere in the superfecta."
