Super Screener: Ginger Brew bomb starts bicoastal Pick 5
The largest field of the the stakes slate this weekend is in the Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream Park, where a dozen 3-year-old fillies were entered for the one-mile turf contest.
The competitive nature makes it a great jumping off point for the first coast-to-coast Pick 5 of the season, linking a trio of stakes at Gulfstream with a pair of races at Santa Anita. The two-track sequence begins at 4:06 p.m. EST with the Ginger Brew, race 9 at Gulfstream.
"The pace is going to be hot with a ton of pressure," Mike Shutty said in this week's Super Screener. "Projected to save ground throughout while reserved off the pace will be the Super Screener top win and top long-shot pick Madame Mischief.
"This improving filly for the Jorge Delgado barn is marking just her third start since August. Form-cycle analysis is looking for a move forward off that last start, which was her lifetime best. In this crowded field Paco Lopez will need to work out a trip to avoid tiring horses as she mounts her closing move, but she should have energy for a late kick here."
Madame Mischief is not the only 15-1 morning-line horse in the Ginger Brew to attract Super Screener's attention. Golden Ghost also caught Shutty's eye.
Each race in Super Screener includes not only analysis such as that on Madame Mischief abut also wagering strategy. The Ginger Brew in particular scored an 8 for playability, which means high payoff potential.
This week's Super Screener includes a matrix of the all-stakes Pick 3 at Gulfstream, a sequence of races which are also the three Gulfstream races in the 1/ST Racing coast-to-coast Pick 5.
