Super Screener: Long shot could spice up Pat O’Brien
Riding a six-race win streak that includes a victory in the Bing Crosby Stakes (G1) last out, The Chosen Vron needs no introduction on the West Coast sprint scene, but he does need some long shot competitors to make his races worth betting.
Enter Arrowthegreat in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien Stakes on Saturday at Del Mar. A winner of two of his nine lifetime starts and winless in a pair of stakes, Arrowthegreat is an unlikely threat to The Chosen Vron, but he does not have to be to make this race worth playing.
"This is a horse-for-course type who might be worth considering particularly as an under player in your exacta wagers with the opportunity to generate value in an otherwise chalky race," Mike Shutty wrote in this week's Super Screener. "His last effort at Del Mar was deceptively strong, knocking out those 90-plus Brisnet pace and speed ratings throughout. Now he cuts back in distance, and form-cycle analysis is predicting a big improvement here."
Every race in Super Screener includes top win contender, most reliable board-hitter, top value and top long-shot designations along with written analysis plus wagering strategy.
