Super Screener: Long shot fits in Claiming Crown Glass Slipper
A hot pace in a full field should set things up for a long-shot closer in the Claiming Crown Glass Slipper on Saturday at Churchill Downs.
The Glass Slipper is part of the Claiming Crown program on an 11-race card beneath the twin spires that also includes the Grade 3 Chilukki Stakes. This week's Super Screener covers all eight of the Claiming Crown events with the Glass Slipper earning the "high payoff potential" designation.
Super Screener had a great Breeders' Cup and did not let up last week, tabbing $17.82 winner Alluring Angel in the Long Island Stakes. This week's free pick might be an even bigger price.
"She hasn't raced since August but has trained progressively over the past two months," Super Screener says of Pink Rose, who is a generous 12-1 on the morning line.
"She won't be as forward as she typically is being reserved about three lengths off the pace with about the same margin of difference as she comes into the stretch. She owns the kind of balanced Energy Distribution Profile that will result in a sustained bid to the wire getting first jump on the deeper closers."
Super Screener sees the shorter price on the morning line, Next Girl, as the most likely to hit the board, providing an opportunity to key the two together in exotic wagers. Given the big field, this play should pay well on Claiming Crown day.
