Super Screener: Hot pace sets up San Clemente longshots

With a field of 14 3-year-old fillies entered for Saturday's Grade 2, $200,000 San Celemente Stakes at Del Mar, Mike Shutty, author of Horse Racing Nation's Super Screener handicapping system, says "the pace projects to be quite hot and heavy pressure is assured."

That's why he's picking a pair of longshots on top in a race he rates, as far as playability goes, a 9/10.

Inspiration for Super Screener Stakes Weekly analysis came from our loyal Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup Super customers. They have often asked us for a product focused on analyzing the key graded stakes that run each weekend throughout the year.

What's offered here is a small sample of the full product, in which Shutty also handicaps Del Mar's Grade 2 San Diego Handicap, plus the Grade 1 Diana and Grade 3 Sanford at Saratoga.

As for those San Clemente longshots...

#1 Rockin Ready: "No horse in this field owns the superior balanced energy distribution profile of this filly. Stalks a very hot and pressured pace saving ground on the rail. Continues on with energy right through the wire. Dependable player at 8-1 on the morning line."

#6 Dulce Ride: "Struggled against much easier last fall before being switched to the productive Richard Baltas barn. Her 2018 debut was quite sharp, running wide throughout but driving on with energy through the wire. Massive move forward, and she's 20-1 here."

Those two horses Shutty considers must-use in multi-race wagers. Tepid, 9-2 morning line favorite Ms Bad Behavior is next on his list. She "has not missed the Superfecta in eight lifetime starts against similar. Does not wilt running into hotter pace setups. Drop back in distance is a big plus here and runs well off a break."

Shutty's analysis continues for every horse in each Super Screener race, and he also offers a wagering strategy catered toward the analysis. In the San Clemente, he recommends focusing on exactas and "tight" trifectas with so much chaos expected underneath the top picks.
