Headlining Saturday’s action is the $1 million Calumet Turf Cup (G2) going 1 1/2 miles at Kentucky Downs, which drew an overflow field of 16 that includes four “also-eligibles.”

According to the Super Screener, the data-driven handicapping method developed by author Mike Shutty, the wide-open grass marathon has a “high payoff potential” given its Playability Score of “8” on a scale of 1-10. It’s easy to see why.

Grade 1 winner Arklow is  the 3-1 favorite on the morning line followed by Channel Cat (9-2) and Tide of the Sea (6-1) for trainer Mike Maker, who will have Luis Saez in the irons. While that trio may account for the principals of the race, Super Screener has tabbed a 15-1 shot as its “most reliable board hitter.”

That horse would be trainer Paulo Lobo’s Imperador, who will break from the rail under Joe Talamo. Imperador has made just three starts this season, improving in each, and the ascent is likely to continue on Saturday.

“Form cycle analysis indicates he has room for additional forward movement!” according to Super Screener. “He’ll sit a great mid-pack trip and will get first jump on the deeper closers...the pace, form progression and easier competition all work in his favor.”

Also for the Calumet Turf Cup, Super Screener has tabbed a “top value” play at 12-1 and another 15-1 long shot that could have an impact on the exotics at the very least.

The Turf Cup is part of a stakes-filled card at Kentucky Downs and Super Screener has you covered. You can find in-depth analysis, picks and wagering strategies for all five stakes races, as well as recommended plays for the late Pick 4, by clicking here.
