Super Screener: Exciting long shot in Oaklawn's Commodore
The first Super Screener of 2026 hopes to bring the New Year in with a bang, as double-digit long shots pepper the top win contender column of the Commodore Stakes on Saturday at Oaklawn.
The Commodore is one of six races in this week's Super Screener, which also includes wagering strategy for the $3 late Pick 3 at the Hot Springs, Ark., track. Half the races covered are for 3-year-olds, including a pair of Kentucky Derby points races. Subscribe to Super Screener today and get every issue between now through Derby for just $97 plus Power Picks and Horses to Single reports daily.
Super Screener gives a solid look to the logical contenders in both Derby points races, so the Commodore caught our attention from a wagering standpoint most.
"This race projects to be the best wagering opportunity among the stakes races this weekend," Mike Shutty writes. "The pace set up couldn't work any better in (No. 7 Banjo Chris's) favor as he takes up a mid-pack position early in the race and then begins picking off tiring runners."
In tabbing the Commodore as having "very high payoff potential," Shutty also points out "top long shot" No. 8 Mischievous M, who is 5-for-7 in the money and loves the six-furlong distance.
Each race in Super Screener includes picks, analysis and wagering strategy, and Shutty is really going for it in the Commodore, with both of the aforementioned long shots keyed in exotic wagering suggestions.
