Super Screener: Best value at Aqueduct comes in nightcap
Mike Shutty's Super Screener picking against the 8-5 morning-line favorite in the overflow New York Stallion Series for 2-year-olds Saturday at Aqueduct has our attention.
This stakes is race 11 on the 11-race card headlined by a quartet of graded stakes, including competitive renewals of the Grade 2 Remsen and Cigar Mile Stakes. An overflow field of 16 entered with a maximum of 14 to start, so the chance to beat the shortest price in that setting is alluring.
It is also the last leg of a $1 minimum all-stakes Pick 3 that starts with the Remsen and Cigar Mile.
"The pace projects to land slightly higher than par-lead by (favorite) no. 2 Parker Boone, who will have company with at least three other rivals pressing in earnest," Shutty wrote. "The Super Screener sides with a 2-year-old who has done all of his racing on turf while facing tougher than what he'll take on here.
"No. 1 Chummers exists a stakes race restricted to New York-breds, which was compromised by a sluggish start resulting in a last-place position early. However, he still managed an effort that was a move forward from his previous efforts, and if he can manage a clean break here then he's firmly in the win mix."
Chummers is 12-1 on the morning line and earned both top win contender and top value designations in Super Screener. No. 7 Spirit of New York is the other top win contender as well as the most reliable board hitter. Each race in Super Screener classifies entrants by those categories, along with written analysis like that above and wagering strategy.
