Sunday's 4th race from Del Mar (11-05-17) is an Optional Claiming event for 2-year-old fillies traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the turf course.
#6 TESORA (3-1) overcame a slow start to win her five furlong turf debut at Gulfstream Park and clear runner-up Crazy for Sofia was a romping next out winner at Gulfstream Park West Oct 7 at five furlongs on turf. Joel Rosario takes the call for high percentage, low profile trainer Jonathan Thomas (8-for-32 turf route) and the $130,000 Keeneland sales graduate is bred to handle a flat mile.
#5 Retro (9-5) won her local turf route debut as the favorite Sept 4 and followed that up with a troubled 3rd as the chalk in the Surfer Girl Stakes (last fraction 24.1). She is back at her winning venue for Flavien Prat and Richard Mandella and the $170,000 Keeneland sales graduate could easily take this entry level affair.
#4 Medaglia Gold (5-2) weakened in her last two stakes tries at this distance but did go all the way in her local flat mile turf maiden breaker. She probably needs an easy lead to succeed.
I do not know what to make of #3 Klosters (5-1). She rallied from 13th to finish a close 4th in her local US bow Sept 4 and she dueled and faded to 11th in the Surfer Girl Stakes. Rafael Bejarano rides back and she was a sprinter overseas so she has distance and running style questions to answer.
THE PLAYS:
#6 to win
Quinella 5-6
Trifecta 5-6/3-4-5-6/3-4-5-6
