In Excess, one of the most successful stallions in the history of California breeding, has been pensioned at age 24. He stood at Vessels Stallion Farm near Bonsall, Calif.
According to farm manager Kevin Dickson, In Excess is “happy and healthy and will live out the rest of his years at the farm.”
An Irish-bred, In Excess (Siberian Express—Kantado, by Saulingo) was one of North America’s leading older males in 1991 for owner Jack J. Munari. Trained by Bruce L. Jackson, In Excess set a track record of 1:58.33 in the 1 1/4-mile Suburban Handicap (gr. I) at Belmont Park and won the Woodward Stakes (gr. I), the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I), the Whitney Handicap (gr. I), and the San Fernando Stakes (gr. II).
