The forecast of sub-freezing weather led Parx Racing to cancel its Monday card, according to a social-media post from track management.

“Live racing has been canceled for Monday, Dec. 23,” the message on X said Sunday morning.

After what is expected to be a 7-degree Sunday night, the National Weather Service said it would be mostly sunny Monday with a high temperature of 29 degrees and calm wind. Ten races had been scheduled at Parx with 84 horses entered to compete for $228,000 in overnight purses.

The cancellation means only two U.S. tracks will have Thoroughbred programs Monday. Mahoning Valley has eight races scheduled between 12:45 and 4:05 p.m. EST. Turf Paradise will go forward with a combination of Thoroughbred and quarter-horse races between 2:40 and 6:10 p.m. EST.

Less than a half-inch of snow was forecast to fall on Bensalem, Pa., overnight Monday into Tuesday, when a 10-race card is scheduled for the early afternoon. Parx management is expected to decide Monday whether to go ahead with the Christmas Eve card.

Parx and Tampa Bay Downs are the only tracks in America with Tuesday cards scheduled this week. No U.S. courses will operate on Christmas day.
