Strike It Rich Scores in Little Silver

In the $100,000 Little Silver Stakes, Strike it Rich led every step of the way, giving jockey Garrett Gomez his first stakes win of Monmouth Park’s 2010 Elite Summer Meet.

Trained by Christophe Clement, the 3-year-old filly captured her first career stakes in her seventh lifetime start.

Taken to the lead by Gomez immediately after the break, Strike it Rich turned back a challenge from eventual runner-up In the Rough after six furlongs in 1:09 3/5 en route to a one-length score.

“Christophe told me that it didn’t look like there was a ton of pace in the race and he said not to worry about it if she ends up on the lead,” Gomez said. “She broke well and we ended up on the front. She was comfortable there and didn’t seem to mind being on the lead. She gave a big effort and ran all the way to the wire.”

Sent off the 6-5 favorite, Strike it Rich paid $4.40, $2.80 and $2.60. In the Rough held for second and completed a $46.60 exacta.

With the win, Strike it Rich pushed her career record to 3-0-1 from seven starts.
